    1. That's one (traditional, stereotypical, defeatist) way to look at it. What if you consider this an opportunity to see what literary critics and AP readers see? Or even a chance to stomp in tomorrow and say, "Dr. Preston, this is a straight waste of our time-- so go ahead, ask anyone five questions around the room at random. When we answer them correctly will you agree that we're ready to move on?"

  3. 25 is both B and C.

    It's B because many people come here to live the 'American dream'; ya know... rolling in money and shiiiit. We can't really let that part of our culture go, because it's something that people have been trying to live for AGES. Even though many of us accept the fact we may not live a glamorous life like Gatsby, we still have a little bit of hope. Because odds are, our ancestors and their ancestors and THEIR ancestors wanted to live the American dream. It just sticks with us.

    It's C because it has become harder and harder to attain the dream. Maybe it's not impossible, but you sure as hell have to do a lot to live a life even remotely similar to Gatsby's life. So we just go on with life, facing challenges (the currents).

    Our culture has this never ending cycle; we all want to get rich and life a fancy AF life, and many of us die trying to get there. That's why Fitzgerald used the word ceaselessly, because I don't think there was ever a point in time where money wasn't important, especially in America.
